Ay Yapım’s shows were sold to more than 45 countries

Ay Yapım received the Golden European Award for Quality and Business Prestige in the TV Production Sphere at the WBA Conference of Leaders and Socrates Award Ceremony 2015 in Rome, Italy. TV production is one of the fields which changed drastically because of the online technologies. Many people predicted that TV would decline and disappear. And many channels did exactly that. However, TV has changed significantly from the 90s but it is more powerful and more influential than ever.

One of the best examples of the growing importance of TV is Ay Yapım, a very successful TV production company from Turkey, whose TV productions are broadcast in more than 40 countries. Ay Yapım’s website also uses the new opportunities and supplies the audience with more information about their favorite shows, actors, future projects. The company has also a strong presence in the social media. Ay Yapım was founded in 2005 but it has had a huge impact on the market. Each year, at least one Ay Yapım production reaches very high ratings.

For example, Forbidden Love (Ask-i Memnu) was sold to 46 countries, The Fall of Leaves (Yaprak Dokumu) to 45 countries, What is Fatmagul’s Crime? (Fatmagul’un Sucu Ne?) to 37 countries and other productions were also sold to more than 20 countries (Ay Yapım’s website). The number of series produced by Ay Yapım has been increasing steadily from 2 a year in 2007 to 5-6 in 2015. The Wall Street Journal estimates that the Turkish soap opera industry grew from a mere $1 million to more than $130 by 2012 and the projections are that the growth will continue.

Kerem Çatay, born in 1979, is the CEO and founder of Ay Yapım and also a film producer. He was born in Ankara and graduated from the Catay Bilkent University Faculty of Economics. He is also a graduate of the University of California Film and Television Program. Kerem Çatay is the driving force of Ay Yapım and is a producer of Aşk-ı Memnu (Forbidden Love), What is Fatmagul’s Crime? (Fatmagul’un Sucu Ne?) which are considered one of the most successful and top-rated series in Turkey ever and which reached very high ratings in other countries, as well. The TV series are extremely famous in the Arab world but also gained great popularity in the MENA region, Eastern and Southern Asia, Eastern Europe, and even Africa.

Despite the glowing market projections, competition is tougher than ever, with more than 60 series by more than 20 studios produced each year. The fact that Ay Yapım produces more series with more episodes shows that the creative power of the company is increasing constantly and it reaches far beyond the borders of Turkey. We are sure that many new series are to be produced from Ay Yapım and we are impatient to watch them on TV.
